I spent the night on the beach in order to connect before painting the early morning when all is still silent and dark. At that time the sea-lions are asleep in the sand and the coastal birds have not yet come out to greet the morning. Cool light broke through the blanket of clouds that hung over the ocean, and formed ghostly shapes which echoed the mood.
